Porsche 944
The Porsche 944 was introduced in 1982 to bridge the gap between the entry-level 924 and the higher-end 911 SC. The body of the 944 was a revised version of the 924, primarily with wider wheel arches. And the interior was carried over from the 924.
The 944 was introduced with a new Porsche-developed 2.5-litre inline four-cylinder engine. The engine was factory-rated at 150hp in its U.S. configuration.
Midway through 1985, Porsche updated the 944 with a redesigned dash and door panels.The antenna was removed and concealed in the windshield. The alternator was upgraded, oil sump capacity increased and gas tank enlarged, among several chassis updates.
Heated and power seats became an option.
In 1987, Porsche incorporated anti-lock brakes and airbags.
A larger 2.7 liter engine, rated 163hp, was introduced in 1989.
